[Re]master01 Selfwinding Chronograph by Audemars Piguet
Audemars Piguet's Remaster01 selfwinding chronograph is the Swiss watchmaker's most consequential new timepiece in decades: a limited edition of 500 pieces that reinvents a 1943 reference using the brand's most advanced in-house movement, priced at approximately $53,100 and available exclusively through AP boutiques worldwide.
Why the Audemars Piguet Remaster01 Matters
Audemars Piguet had not produced a new chronograph for sale since the early twentieth century. Then in 2018, the brand displayed a vintage 1940s stainless steel and pink gold chronograph at auction, reigniting internal desire to revisit the complication. The result, launched in 2020 to mark the opening of the Musee Atelier in Le Brassus, is the [Re]master01: not a replica, not a reissue, but a reinterpretation of the 1943 reference 1533 that recasts a historical silhouette with a completely new movement.
Specifications: Calibre 4409 and the Flyback Architecture
The Remaster01 houses Calibre 4409, an entirely in-house automatic integrated flyback chronograph with column-wheel and vertical clutch. Key specifications include a 40mm case in stainless steel with 18k pink gold bezel, crown and pushers; a champagne dial with blued steel chronograph hands; tri-compax layout with small seconds, 30-minute counter and 12-hour counter; 28,800 vibrations per hour; and 70 hours of power reserve. Water resistance is rated to 20 meters.
One deliberate departure from the original: the date complication has been removed, and the skeletonized rotor of modern AP movements has been replaced with a hobnail-patterned rotor that references the texture vocabulary of early twentieth-century watchmaking. The two-tone case, the tachymeter scale and the old Audemars, Piguet and Co. Geneva logo are all retained, bridging generations without pretending one is the other.
Limited to 500 Pieces, Boutique Exclusive
Production is capped at 500 pieces, sold exclusively through AP boutiques. At launch during the Covid-19 pandemic, when physical stores were closed, Audemars Piguet offered online access through their boutique network at a price of $53,100 before taxes. The Remaster01 reference is 26595SR.OO.A032VE.01.

The Remaster Philosophy and AP's Design Language
The Remaster01 occupies a specific niche in the AP catalog: it is neither the Royal Oak (modernist icon) nor a historical reissue, but a creative bridge between eras. Audemars Piguet has since expanded the Remaster family, showing the initiative was strategic rather than a one-off.
