Rivian R1S & R1T - fully electric AWDs

Rivian R1S & R1T - fully electric AWDs - TheArsenale

If you thought fully electric propulsion was just an high performance luxury car business you were right! Rivian, unveiling its SUV, the R1S, and its pick-up truck, the R1T, definetly prove it. They just demonstrate fully electric vehicles could be useful too.

There is no doubt about the performance: Rivian adopted the well known “skateboard” platform and integrated it with four tiny, angry electric motors which power depends on customer battery pack choice. The most powerful has a capacity of 180 kWh, a total power output (to gearbox) of 562 kW and, most of all, a stunning range of more than 400 miles on a full charge.

Luxury utility features won’t be left either since both models are fully equipped with fancy leather/wooden interiors, cameras, lidar (Laser Imaging Detection and Ranging, for those like me who had no idea), radar and a high precision GPS coupled with high definition maps and even a self driving device.

Furthermore, as explained by the MIT graduate CEO RJ Scaringe: ’’The R1T’s lockable Gear Tunnel aft of the cab, which extends from one side of the vehicle to the other, provides more than 350 liters of space for hauling gear of any size. The R1T also features a watertight, integrated tonneau cover for the bed which is equipped with three 110-volt outlets with more 400 watts available at each.”

Orders are expected to be fulfilled in 2020, according to the company and we have no doubt they will be numerous.
