Tarform is a Brooklyn-based electric motorcycle company founded in 2016 by Taras Kravtchouk and Jean Christian Jung. Its bikes merge classic cafe racer aesthetics with sustainable materials and zero-emission powertrains, establishing Tarform as one of the most distinctive voices in the growing premium electric motorcycle market.
The Design Philosophy: Classic Form, Modern Technology
Taras Kravtchouk came to Tarform with a background in conventional motorcycle design. His brief was straightforward: revive the classic form and unite it with modern technology. The result is a motorcycle that looks like it belongs in a 1960s garage but performs like a contemporary EV. Bodywork panels are made from biodegradable flax fibre rather than petroleum-based plastics, while seat materials draw on natural fibres derived from pineapple and corn. The structural use of 3D-printed parts allows for precision geometries that are difficult to achieve through traditional manufacturing.
Performance and Range
The Tarform Luna, the flagship model, is powered by a 50 kW air-cooled electric motor producing 143 ft-lb (194 Nm) of peak torque. It reaches 100 km/h from rest in 3.8 seconds and tops out at around 190 km/h. On a 12 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the Luna delivers approximately 100 miles of city range, with a full charge on a Level 2 (J1772) outlet taking around 3 hours. Smart connectivity features are managed through a dedicated mobile app, giving owners access to diagnostics, range data, and ride history.
Sustainability as a Core Specification
What differentiates Tarform from most electric motorcycle brands is the material philosophy embedded in every component decision. The choice of flax fibre panels, bio-derived seat materials, and 3D printing is not cosmetic. It reflects a considered position on the full lifecycle of the machine, from production through to end of life. Tarform has also introduced the Vera, a second model positioned at a lower price point, with a top speed over 135 km/h and a starting price of around $16,000.
