THE 850 FANTOM AIR: PORSCHE'S ELECTRIC INNOVATION ON WATER

THE 850 FANTOM AIR: PORSCHE'S ELECTRIC INNOVATION ON WATER - TheArsenale

The Porsche 850 Fantom Air is an all-electric day cruiser created in partnership with Austrian boatbuilder Frauscher, powered directly by the drivetrain technology from the Porsche Macan EV. Limited to an initial run of 25 units and priced from 561,700 euros, this 8.67-metre electric speedboat is the most technically sophisticated electric watercraft to carry the Porsche name, and one of the most capable electric pleasure boats in the world.

What Is the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air?

The 850 Fantom Air is based on the Frauscher 858 Fantom Air day cruiser hull, a proven platform from the Frauscher Shipyard in Ohlsdorf, Austria. Porsche's engineering team integrated the complete drivetrain from the all-electric Porsche Macan, including the 400 kW permanently excited synchronous motor, 100 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, and full 800-volt power electronics architecture from Porsche's Premium Platform Electric system. This is the same technology that gives the Macan EV its record-fast charging speeds on land, now applied to a marine environment.

The boat accommodates up to nine passengers across its swim platform, two rear sun loungers, and forward seating section. Interior upholstery is finished in salt and spray-resistant artificial leather, and every visual detail, from the Porsche-shield cockpit seats to the branded steering wheel, reflects the collaboration between two engineering cultures.

Porsche 850 Fantom Air Specs and Speed

The 850 Fantom Air offers three pre-programmed driving modes. Docking mode limits speed for safe navigation in harbours and restricted areas. Range mode delivers approximately 45 km at an optimal cruising speed of 41 km/h, while at hull speed the range extends to over 100 km. Sport Plus mode unlocks the boat's full 400 kW output and a top speed of 85 km/h (46 knots), with enough battery charge for approximately one hour of high-speed running. Typical mixed-use journeys last two to three hours, making the 850 Fantom Air genuinely practical for day excursions.

Thanks to the 800-volt architecture inherited from Porsche's car division, the boat supports DC fast charging at over 250 kW, enabling rapid turnaround between trips. Full specifications and pricing are available on the official Porsche newsroom press kit.

How Does the Porsche Fantom Air Compare to Other Electric Boats?

The 850 Fantom Air stands apart from the electric boat market in two key areas: the depth of its automotive-grade powertrain and the completeness of its Porsche design integration. Most electric boats use marine-specific motors and battery packs. The Fantom Air is, in effect, a Porsche Macan on water, sharing not only technology but the entire service and charging infrastructure of the Porsche ecosystem. As Robb Report notes, this is Porsche's most compelling argument yet for the scalability of EV technology across mobility categories.
