The Sombra by Tamarit Motorcycles is a custom Triumph Thruxton 1200R born from a single phone call in April 2017 and completed into one of the most elegant cafe racer builds in the Tamarit catalogue. Its name means shadow in Spanish, and the bike earns it: dark, composed, and built with the precision that has made Tamarit one of Europe's leading custom Triumph workshops.
The Concept
The owner reached out to Tamarit Motorcycles initially just asking about parts. A conversation about a colour change turned into a full custom project when the Tamarit team proposed a comprehensive transformation of his stock Thruxton 1200R. The brief was approved and work began immediately. The result, named Sombra, stays close to the Thruxton's sporting cafe racer DNA while adding bespoke bodywork, custom components, and a paint scheme that gives the bike a dramatically different presence on the road.
What Makes It
The most visible changes come from the body: a Monaco seat replaces the stock unit, a Tamarit belly pan fills the underside of the engine, and a short front fender (the Little Bastard) trims the nose. A rear fender eliminator kit from Tamarit's own parts catalogue cleans up the tail. Oval-shaped numbered side covers give the Sombra a unique, numbered identity. The headlight gets a new grille and a six-hole holder, replacing an original mounting solution the Tamarit team found unsatisfying. Leather grips and an original Triumph rearview mirror on the bar ends add tactile and visual refinement. The Boludos exhaust system is wrapped with heat-proof tape for both protection and appearance. Pirelli tyres complete the contact patch, matching the Thruxton's performance character.
The Build
The Triumph Thruxton 1200R platform provides the foundation: a 1200cc parallel twin with a high-compression tune, clip-on handlebars, and Ohlins rear shocks as standard. Tamarit layered their own custom parts on top without touching the mechanical specification, so the Sombra retains the full performance and reliability of the R variant. The Apolo exhaust (listed as Boludos in the build notes) deepens the sound signature. Tamarit Motorcycles' design and paint programme finishes the bike in a dark scheme that justifies the name. At 27,750 euros, it is a complete, road-homologated machine with full Tamarit craftsmanship behind every detail.
