Borromeo deSilva's Super Fluid Stand Up Paddleboard is crafted of carbon fiber
Milanese studio Borromeo deSilva has crafted a carbon fiber stand-up paddleboard unlike anything else in watersports: the Super Fluid SUP, a 3.8-metre, 11 kg carbon monocoque developed in collaboration with Volvo Ocean Race technology and Fluid4Engineering, the America's Cup engineering firm specialising in fluid dynamics.
Inspired by Water Mammals and Race Yacht Engineering
The Super Fluid's design language is drawn from the way marine mammals surface, revealing a smooth, curved back breaking cleanly through the water. Borromeo deSilva partnered with Fluid4Engineering to apply Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to every surface of the board, optimising for performance, handling, and stability simultaneously. The main sections around the standing zone are shaped for maximum stability underfoot, while the refined bow sections are designed for a surface-piercing entry that slices through chop rather than riding over it.
Exposed Carbon Fiber Construction
The board is built as a carbon fiber monocoque, a single continuous shell that combines structural rigidity with extremely low weight. At 11 kg for a 3.8-metre board, the Super Fluid is genuinely race-competitive while remaining manageable for solo transport. The exposed weave finish is not simply aesthetic: it represents a commitment to using the material at its most pure, with no unnecessary mass. A pressure recovery section runs from mid-bottom to the transom, enhancing flow alignment around the single fin for cleaner, faster tracking.
