Buell Firebolt Ice Racer by NCCR Customs
This custom Buell is the Firebolt Ice Racer, also known as the Moonshine Runner, built by Sweden's NCCR (Northern Classic, Custom and Race) to be hot enough to turn ice into fire. Based on a Buell XB9R Firebolt, it is a hardcore winter racer wrapped in custom bodywork and rolling on speedway ice spikes, one of the wildest custom Buell builds to ever come out of the far north.
Who built the custom Buell XB9R Firebolt Ice Racer?
There is no doubt that Sweden can be hardcore in the winter, with icy cold and a ruthless nature, so it seems logical that its custom engines are just as brutal. The Buell XB9R Firebolt Ice Racer comes from Swedish custom builder NCCR and is the result of a collaboration between NCCR, Buell Racing, ME Racing and SSAB, a steel processing company that provided the Backbone frame for the motorcycle. The whole Kruper family, who run the company, helped with the motorcycle development and turned it into a masterpiece.
What makes this Buell custom special?
When asked about the project, Birgit, the mother of the family, replied with a smile: "We wanted to build something beyond the usual, nothing out of the box and something without any of the usual custom bike limitations or stereotypes." That ethos shows in every detail of this Buell custom, which mixes race intent with genuine cold weather capability.
How is the Firebolt set up for ice?
The bike keeps the Buell XB9R fuel in frame concept and still carries its factory forks and swing-arm, while the wheels come from a donor bike. Built for snow, cold and ice, the rubber gets a special modification to cope with the harsh northern winters, and the machine now rolls on 25mm speedway ice spikes for serious grip on frozen lakes.
