Hyundai has once again pushed the boundaries of automotive design with the unveiling of the Ioniq Concept 3—a bold and compact B-segment electric vehicle. This five-door hatchback is a refreshing departure from the usual SUV-dominated market, bringing playfulness and creativity to the electric vehicle (EV) landscape. Featuring origami-inspired folded steel bodywork coated in an anodized-effect Tungsten Grey, the Concept 3 makes an immediate impression. Complementing this are lemon-tinted glass and matching wheels, which lend the car a nostalgic yet futuristic vibe, reminiscent of a life-sized LEGO design. Its wide rear end, upswept stance, and wraparound glass add a sense of boldness and modernity, ensuring the Concept 3 stands out from the crowd.
The design extends beyond the exterior, delivering an interior filled with whimsy and imagination. Inside, the cabin boasts brightly colored finishes, modular dash widgets, and futuristic hardware that often appears to float in mid-air. Adding a touch of personality to the experience is Mr. Pix, an animated avatar integrated into the car's displays. Hyundai has also incorporated practical elements such as physical climate control buttons, ensuring that the blend of digital and tactile controls works seamlessly. Furthermore, the headrests with integrated speakers, a dot-matrix steering wheel, and chunky pedals evoke a mix of modernity and retro charm. Even in its concept stage, the interior reflects Hyundai’s commitment to both playfulness and practicality in EV design.
While technical specifications remain under wraps, industry rumors suggest that the Ioniq 3 may share its 81.4-kWh battery pack with the Kia EV3, offering an impressive 375 miles (605 km) of range and ultra-fast charging from 10% to 80% in just 31 minutes. Set to rival competitors like Volkswagen's ID.3, the Ioniq 3 is slated for European production with a market release expected in late 2026. Whether all the playful design features make it to the final production model remains uncertain, but Hyundai’s gamble on a visually striking and user-interactive EV might just redefine what mainstream electric hatchbacks can offer.
