"THE BRUTAL" SOLID CRS-01 - FIRST LOOK

"THE BRUTAL" SOLID CRS-01 - FIRST LOOK - TheArsenale

The Solid CRS-01 is a brutalist electric motorcycle concept created for the Dutch startup SOLID EV by Belgian design duo Jeroen Claus and Fabian Bres of VoyagerCo. It answers a simple question: what would a motorcycle look like if its manufacturing process, not fashion, dictated its form? The result is a sharp, angular, almost dystopian machine whose sheet-metal panels double as the structure, giving the CRS-01 a look unlike anything else on two wheels.

What is the Solid CRS-01?

Among all, fashion and design styles come and go, so what may be trendy now may not be in a decade or two. This limited-edition motorcycle provides an alternative, one that could look harsh and perhaps even a little bit futuristic. SOLID EV commissioned the design team from VoyagerCo. to create this brutal electric motorcycle, and the CRS-01 was the answer.

Why does the CRS-01 look so brutal?

The Solid CRS-01 has a brutalist-influenced aesthetic that is described as being harsh, sharp, and somewhat scary. It nearly seems as if the wheels, motors, and other components that drive a motorcycle were simply wrapped at acute angles and attached to the metal sheets. That severe geometry is not styling for its own sake: it is a direct consequence of how the bike is built.

How was the Solid CRS-01 built?

In a sense, the look is also how this motorcycle was created. It was designed utilizing a modular strategy and reasonably priced components, and the cover is actually composed of sheet metal that forms a self-supporting monocoque, doubling as the exterior panels. According to designboom, the team at VoyagerCo. used a highly modular, product-like approach to keep manufacturing efficient and cost-effective.

What about the CRS-01 powertrain?

This crs-01 is conceived as a modern interpretation of the cafe racer, built for city streets rather than outright top speed. Specialist coverage from autoevolution reports a 100 V, 21.5 kWh battery pack for the concept, geared toward urban riding at relatively moderate velocities.

The distinctive appearance makes it look as though there are no longer any resources to utilize or factories to cast metal into more aesthetically attractive shapes, which is exactly the post-industrial mood the designers were chasing.
