Great Wall Motor (GWM) has recently introduced its first motorcycle brand, Souo, with a bang by launching the S2000 GL, an eight-cylinder tourer poised as a direct rival to Honda's esteemed Gold Wing. Unveiled at the Beijing International Motorcycle Exhibition, the S2000 GL not only marks GWM's ambitious entry into the motorcycle industry but also sets a high bar with its impressive specifications. The bike boasts a 2,000cc flat-eight DOHC engine that surpasses the Gold Wing’s 1,833cc six-cylinder in power and complexity, paired with an advanced eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. This configuration aims to offer a blend of performance and comfort suitable for long-distance touring.
The design of the Souo S2000 GL deviates from contemporary aesthetics, drawing inspiration from traditional Chinese lion sculptures, particularly evident in the lion-eye-like headlights. This distinctive style is supported by a robust technological suite which includes a modern Hossack-style girder fork for improved handling dynamics and a cast aluminum frame similar to the Gold Wing. Detailing extends to high-end features such as Brembo brakes, a large TFT display mirroring those found on luxury bikes like the Harley-Davidson Road Glide, and a full suite of comfort-focused amenities including heated grips and seats, automatic headlights, and an electronics package that suggests touring in both style and ease.
Despite being a newcomer in the motorcycle sector, GWM’s leverage of its automotive background and substantial market capitalization might give the Souo brand a competitive edge. With the S2000 GL, Souo not only challenges established models but also showcases its potential to innovate and expand further into various motorcycle segments.
