In the burgeoning field of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), Czech startup Zuri is making significant strides with its innovative vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft. Known for its hybrid-electric propulsion system, Zuri's VTOL merges ecological efficiency with remarkable performance capabilities. The aircraft features a spacious five-seat cabin and is optimized for both safety and comfort, ideal for regional travel. With a promising range of approximately 700 km (435 miles) and a top speed of 186 mph (300 kph), this VTOL is poised to transcend the limitations of current electric air taxis, which typically offer shorter flight durations.
Zuri introduced an intriguing aspect of their development process at Aero Friedrichshafen 2024—a large-scale ground testbed named "Skeleton." This testbed simulates 60% of the commercial aircraft's size and focuses primarily on evaluating the electrical systems integral to the VTOL. The successful initial tests have paved the way for a flying prototype that will weigh no more than 600 kg (1,322 lbs) with the pilot onboard. Such meticulous testing not only ensures reliability upon launch but also positions Zuri as a leader in using advanced testing techniques to perfect their aircraft designs.
Furthermore, the aircraft’s design incorporates eight tilting engines for efficient vertical takeoffs, akin to a helicopter, seamlessly transitioning to fixed wings for forward flight.
